There may be a state or two where if you walk into the courthouse without heat, they'll issue a temporary weapon to use while you're on the premises. North Carolina, however, is NOT one of those states.
The Cumberland County Courthouse used to have a sign on the doors that said no guns. Now there are signs with lists of weapons. Among the prohibited weapsons are knives, swords, and maces. You wouldn't think the signs would have to be that specific, but according the deputies, folks try to walk in with a sword or mace pretty regularly.
Among the less obvious prohibited items are nail files and hair picks. When folks bring these things with them it becomes frustrating for them when they have to walk back to their car and slows things down for everyone else who's trying to get in.
Please consider what personal items you're attempting to bring in the courthouse. If it's a weapon or a personal item that could easily be used as a weapon, please leave it in the car.
