An old friend brought this to my attention and, while it relates to Social Security retirement rather than disability, it seems so few folks know about this and it's potentially so important, that I had to pass it on.
Veterans with active duty military service earnings during the years 1957 to 2001 may be eligible to be credited with up to an additional $1,200 income per year for those earnings. For retired veterans living on a fixed income, this could make a difference.
For more details, please go to the Social Security site Special Extra Earnings for Military Service. If you qualify for this benefit and you believe that Social Security hasn't properly taken your military service earnings into account in determining your retirement benefit, I recommend you contact your local office as soon as possible.
Thanks for reading,
Eric
